Blogging leads to writing contracts Empty
PostSubject: Blogging leads to writing contracts   Blogging leads to writing contracts EmptyThu Feb 12, 2009 10:16 am

I thought I would start this thread for two reasons: 1) because I have gotten several paid writing contracts from blogging, and 2) was wondering if anyone else has had similar success stories to share.

Blogging has been a very good marketing and networking medium for me. I have, as I noted above, gotten several paid writing contracts (from well respected publishers) because they found my blog or one of my blog posts. I have also networked with many colleagues that have given me leads. Likewise, I have developed a strong readership, so that in the future when the next book comes out (or whatever), I know that several hundred readers will see it the moment I announce it. Finally, my blogs have been paying me money in-and-of-themselves.

So, blogging seems to be a very nice option for writers. I write nonfiction, so it might not be the same for fiction. Anyone else have similar stories they want to share?

Congratulations flash.
It places a new face on blogging. Guess I'd better get to work and start blogging instead of logging-in.

Good for you, Flash. I blog just for fun because it is similar to the ten years when I was writing a daily newspaper column.

Flash, first, congratulations! I do some blogging, but lately it has
been from a photography standpoint. Most of my "contacts" on my blog
are thereby photographers. It takes a long time to grow a list of
followers and I may have given up too quickly.

Recently I have been blogging on small local on-line newspapers (very
few have the blog feature), in the hopes of having an editor "discover"
me and ask me to do a regular article in the Lifestyles or Human
Interest sections. I know, I know - dream on, right? LOL

If nothing esle, it's a good exercise in writing, and I have had several readers to give me positive feedback.

EDIT to add: I notice that the links you provided are about indigenous
cultures. Both of my novels (one published, the other soon to be, I
hope) are historical fiction and based on the southeastern Creek
Indians. Should I dig deeper into those sites you listed?

Great job.
I have never considered blogging for profit, glad to see you're doing pretty well by it.

Malcolm, when it comes to blogging you are my hero! You inspire me to want to blog. I just don't get the time. I liked your response on Twitter. So how much sleep do you get a night anyway? Three? *smile*

Congratulations Flash, and it is an intriguing thought. However, I seldom have the time to do much blogging. I try, but they often get shuffled under all the other things I have to do. (like feeding critters, painting rooms, etc. ) When I get done with 'chores', there often is no energy left for it.

Another good one, Lin.
Are there any about people who call in on radio and TV programs and begin by saying, "How ya doin'?" to the announcer.

Oh, Dick. How I hate that! I listen to George Norry on Coast To Coast AM and it seems that most of the callers ask that question. Could it be nerves?
