I found the following on FB and shared it:

“Discussions are always better than arguments,
Because an argument is to find out who is right,
And a discussion is to find out what is right”

I hope we can continue to discuss things on this forum.

Alice, if you like fighting, do you like and anticipate the "make up" segment?

I also like debates. Although one can argue a point, it is not the same thing as having an argument.  Presenting a different point of view can either become a point of discussion or it can turn ugly and end with name calling.  When it reaches that point, the person doing the name calling usually is a person who ran out of ideas or cannot think of an appropriate response.  It is rare for one to say "you are right and I am wrong".  Admitting defeat is never easy.  The ego won't allow it.

Dea Abe,
My ego always does.  Sometimes I am blinded by the light, however.  hahah
Love,

I like debates that have rules that people must follow.  That helps to keep it non-personal.  Personal attacks usually come when facts run out.

I don't think two people of different backgrounds can have a debate. Both are putting pictures in their mind as to what they know.
Example. A person born, and raised in the United States after WW2, cannot understand what the normal German had to do under Hitler just to stay alive. I have heard many people say, "All you had to do was resist Hitler." I think if we lived under Hitler, we would have done the same as the normal German did. The people were lied to, under laws that could take their life, and that of their loved ones. Plus they were fighting for their country...even some Jews served in the German Army because they loved their country, Germany.

Domenic, I agree.  When information is presented that is not well known, it can add to any discussion.
As the years go by we become more informed about past events and new information can change/alter our previously held beliefs or prejudices.  When one makes a comment it is often referred to as an opinion and it is most often just that - an opinion.  How we form our opinions is not easily explained.  Our experiences influence our opinions and no two people have the same experiences.  Opening the door for discussion can be an on-going learning process.  Being open to new ideas/information is IMV the basis for learning.  We may not like what we hear, but considering the new input can provide new insights that trigger more questions.

Millions of muslims believe that a woman who commits adultery deserves to be stoned to death. So-called peaceful muslims are prepared to pick up a stone and take part in the stoning to death of another human being. You could put a gun to my head and threaten to kill me if I refused to join in and help to stone a woman to death. I would say go ahead, kill me; my death will be on your conscience, but this woman's death will not be on mine.

You might say that a terrorist has no conscience, and I would agree. However, I do have a conscience, and that's what matters. I could not live with myself knowing that I had ended someone else's life. We have to stand up to evil; there really is no other choice. This video expresses how I feel about the evil of political correctness:
