| I am! We, Americans, try to help others. We don't always succeed, but at least we try, even in the midst of our own troubles. Keep at it, America and never give up. |

| Whenever there were problems, Americans eventually rose to the occasion and found a way out. The spirit of "I can" is a very positive factor. Giving up is not an option. I have often asked people how they view Americans. There were always mixed responses, however the one thing that stands out is the American spirit - a spirit of "it can be done". JFK brought that spirit to the fore. Our space program attests to that spirit. Landing on the moon was added proof. War unites citizens with a common cause. Presidents like to engage in war. They know that the people will be behind them. Reagan was so keen on war that he invaded Grenada. It is laughable for such a great power to pick on a small and insignificant country, but it was a war. It didn't matter that Grenada posed no threat to America. We can be proud of the American Spirit. We are not always proud of our leaders and their actions, however eventually the "Phonenix rises from the ashes". |

| I am 1/4 English. My mom's maiden name is Traweek from Trawick, landed gentry in the far distant past in England.
As for pride in the U.S.? We were the first nation in the world to elect a President by a public vote. We didn't even know what honorary title to give him at first.
The U.S. was a new experiment that has done quite well in its attempt to empower citizens to determine their own destinies. Imperfect, yes. But better than most places as young. Of course I am proud.
I worked and traveled across the globe and always felt a sense of relief to come home where my passport is safe and I don't have to fear the laws and customs of different value systems.
I am proud of the individual "can do" attitude that has its problems but sees the light in the end.
I am proud of all those citizens who step up to provide first responder services and join the military for the good of all, putting their lives on the line for me.
I am proud of the innovation and creativity of so many who have risen from nothing to stardom with sheer grit and energy. |
