Very cool, Joe - llterally.  Brings out a dream-like quality that goes with the night-time theme.  What would be a hot scene at midday becomes more inviting in its darkness.

A perfect example of the mythical reality that darkness is not evil, especially when the daytime heat is far less pleasant by comparison.

There's an ethereal quality to Adobe Night as though the spirit of the place is represented--perhaps one of the dimension beyond the five senses or the physical realm and beyond what we can perceive by day or night. That may be far from your intention, but it is what the painting speaks to me. It is one of the best qualities of art worthy of the name in all its forms that it speaks to us at conscious and subconscious levels. I do not have the training or language to speak intelligently about or to analyze a painting as to technique, balance, composition, and so on. But I don't need that expertise to connect with a work or to appreciate it at both emotional and intellectual (albeit subjective) levels just as I don't need to be trained in music to appreciate a symphony or a simple melody.

Art speaks directly to the soul--my soul at least. Much of what passes for art these days is for me the musical equivalent of nails on a chalkboard. (And I doubt the effect of a stroll through most any "modern art" museum today would have a different impact on me were I to have the benefit of all the art appreciation education the world can provide.)

                               Everything you say is true ! If I were in NY right now we'd
                     be having lunch and go to the Met Museum, I don't care for modern
                     art, I guess I was spoiled working at the Met, always looking at the
                     old masters, I loved art since I was 12 !

What a magnificent experience to work at the Met -

I went to the Louvre when I was too young to appreciate my experience.  Now, I visit on the Internet - just not the same but I'm more appreciative.

It's amazing where the Internet can take us today. There are really few limits to the talented searcher.

My wife and I love the Met and have spent many happy days there. Working there had to have been amazing. I've never been to France and my wife, Alice, was there when she was a young girl like DK. We have not been able to go yet--my fault in part as I am wary of places where i can't speak the language and escorted tours with pre-planned time limited visits to the usual tourist areas are just not very appealing. Maybe next time we visit London we'll swing by Paris for a day trip at least. The Louvre is a place I have to see before I die. (Too long since my last visit to the Prado in Madrid as well. Life rushes by too quickly. Too quickly!)

Lunch with a friend and a few hours at the Met would be great, Joe. Maybe some day when we're both in town. I don't get to the city as much as I used to. Life just gets in the way of living--at least it has for me for much too long.
