- South Sydney grabbed their third win of the season tonight against the Penrith Panthers by 18-2, with Nathan Merritt celebrating with his Club-record 145th try.
Merritt broke two milestones on the night, firstly surpassing Bob McCarthy’s 211 first grade game record (broken last week by John Sutton, while Sutton extended his tally t0 213), but also breaking an 81 year try-scoring record held by another Club legend in the form of legendary Test winger, Benny Wearing. Merritt is now the most prolific Rabbitohs try-scorer in the Club’s history.
Mere minutes before kick-off, the heavens opened up with a torrential down-pour to completely change the dynamic of the game. But while ball-handling was compromised by the conditions, the Rabbitohs’ defence was not – managing to make only a handful of missed tackles during the entirety of the match. After winning the opening game by a huge margin, the Rabbits got a bit over-confident and lost the next 3 by very narrow margins, but came out of the pattern last week with another huge win, and followed it up last night with this deluge of a game. Go, the Bunnies! |

| Especially cool when "little" bunnies overthrow really big cats. |

| Still early in the season, the Rabbitohs have been off in some of teir games, either winning by huge margins or losing in the last minutes of tightly scored games. Today they broke that pattern to win an exciting game that went back and forth the whole time. Lots of great plays, but one of my faves, Greg Inglis, scored a try that would be unbelievable for most other players: http://m.foxsports.com.au/nrl/nrl-premiership/south-sydney-star-greg-inglis-scores-brilliant-solo-try-in-controversial-win/story-fn2mcuj6-1226896075641 Oh,yeah. I still speak Inglis!! |
