My daughter had a surgery on her ankle that involved scraping her Achilles tendon because of water on it. She is not to put any weight on it for 4 weeks.  My question is:  How, if you have no upper body strength, can one get themselves up and down like from toilet to standing and visa versa and what is the best thing to use.  She has a walker but cannot get up.  I am going there on Monday to help her learn to take care of herself.  She is in a cast to her knee.  On pain meds.
I have been trying myself, and find that pushing up is more productive than pulling.  Help!
Love,
Betty

                  Betty..

How's about getting a high toilet seat , I think they sell them at
Walgreens Medical supplies, it would raise her several inches higher.
                       Here's their site:

                                                            Cheers..Joe.. Very Happy

When Mom was living with me, she had a toilet seat similar to the one Joe mentioned.  Hers was like an aluminum chair with arms that was placed over the regular toilet seat.  That way she had support for both sitting down and getting up.

Dear Don,
Thank you for your information.  I went there today and my daughter is doing better.  She is so weak, but she is doing better and can use the bathroom alone.  I told her she had to move around and not just sit in the chair because of my fear of blood clots in her legs.  So every hour she is hopping with one foot using the walker.  Not very far, but a big improvement.  I feel that after this week, she will be able to care for herself a little more.  I do love her very much.
Love,
Betty
