                      What are kids today eating, drinking or watching ? I read about a
               11 year old boy in Washington State who plotted to murder a little
               girl because she was annoying ! He brought to school a knife plus a
               loaded hand gun, he got another kid who was to stand guard and shoot
               anyone who dared to stop him....Read on....Oh yes he was convicted

Stories like that are news because they are so unusual - kind of like "Man bites Dog" is news while "dog Bites Man" is not. I don't think it's a sign we have to go about distrusting eleven-year-olds.

I think it is their murderous video games. It is just a game to them.

Readers of media besides HuffPo and CNN will find that 12 and 13 yr olds are routinely flash mobbing, violently assaulting, and killing others. Their favorites to attack seem to be elderly and homeless people, and they do it in groups. YouTube is full of local news broadcasts on the subject.

Video games are probably part of it. A bigger part, though, is that they're being raised with zero morals and values, have no fathers in their homes, and their single mom is little more than a violent hoodrat herself.

The kids aren't jailed. They're  constantly turned loose, where they do it again ...there seem to be very little repercussions. Another reason why they're doing it.

What do you put it on? I consider the family unit to be the most important influence of behavior, values and morals. School, church, and media (TV, music, video games) are also important, but parents should be the ones monitoring all that.

Why don't you google "safe passages in Chicago" and see what that is. The executive summary: The police have to babysit huge swathes of Chicago's south side population by walking kids to and from school (K-12) otherwise they'll literally kill each other on the way. Where are their parents? The cops on the Second City Blog (another great alternative news source, btw) want to know, too.

Their parents are probably working multiple jobs to keep a roof over their heads and are so exhausted they have no time to investigate video games. One would expect better quality control.

This is not the fault of single moms.

Them, too. But ultimately, the single moms are propped up with enough government aid to keep them in business. The dads aren't. Take away the aid and we'll have less of them. Behavior is manipulated with public policy.

Take away the aid and we will have poorly fed kids. That will help nothing.

                      aren't taught religion, they watch stuff on TV that gives them stupid ideas, they have
                      no repect for anyone , I blame this on the parents, it all starts at home...And as I was

I see it more as a failure of society and of he lack of support groups, which are generally unavaulabie to them because of poverty (see Ruby Payne's book, Poverty). It would be a lot cheaper, in the long run, to provide relief to these areas and help the families while the children are young and still have a chance to learn than to have to pay later to keep them in jails and off the streets. It most often takes two to make a baby so the absent dads have to share the responsibility, but it's mostly about a lack of community. In early tribes and villages the children were cared for by everyone in the group, and mothers had that support, whatever their circumstances were. Modern industrial/corporate societies lack the compassion, mainly because feminine values are not honored. Cooperation has been replaced by competition, so how else can you expect the neglected children to behave? And, of course,it's a lot more convenient to blame the mothers. It's just another aspect of the patriarchal attitude where individuals compete for whatever means might be availble. It becomes a case of dog-eat-dog, and it begins at higher levels, inside the offices of the wealthy and elite. And the fear and anger that goes with the competitiveness is what trickles down, not the means for holding a family together. In a real community, all members cooperate to provide for the whole.

Discipline was a key factor, Joe.  Seen today, it was harsh, but it was effective.  You can interpret discipline anyway you wish.
