| I have thought this day, while pulling weeds and sweating, that, maybe, it would be a good idea to write a book called, WHY IS THE SKY BLUE. A little book for young children about things like that. The asking age. What age is is that the children always ask why? My whole problem is illustration, you know. Love, Betty |

| How can birds fly?
Life is a mystery all around. How can snakes climb trees if they have no legs or arms?
Just a small idea for a book. I would have loved to have such a one when I could first read and find answers to questions. A lot of parents do not have the time and a lot of parents do not have the answers. I am wondering here. Is every question answered bY Googgle for every child??? Love Betty Love, Betty |

| I think it's a great idea, Betty. Illustrations would be good if you can find a collaborator. |

| Betty,
You need my cousin. She illustrates children's books. I will get you in touch with her if you like. |

| Good idea Betty. As to when kids start asking why, I don't recall the age, but do remember how irritating it could be at times. I think Googling questyons can lead you to sites where you can find the answers. There are also sites where you can pose a question and someone will supply help.
Asking questions is a good sign of learning. Once in a class, the question was asked, "Who does the most learning? A child of six, a teenager of 16, a person around 25 or an adult of 40+?" Most responded with someone over 40. The correct answer was a child of Six. Explanation being that a teenager thinks they know the answers and will often respond when giving advice, "I know, I know." A person in their mid twenties, perhaps a college graduate, often feels they have all the answers having placed their certificate on the wall don't want to appear ignorant and will hesitate to ask questions, and therefore stop learning new things. A person of 40+ is also in a similar category. After all they have lived much of their life and should know the answers and are reluctant to ask questions. Those who ask the most questions do the most learning as with a child of six. I realize that I have learned much, but that there is so much more to learn. The older I get the more difficult it is to retain new information and thus learning slows. If one can shove their egos, they can still ask questions at any age, unfortunately the response may be, "You already asked that question." That should not be a deterrent to asking although it is often the case. Being stupid is not asking questions, in my view. There are seldom stupid questions, however the answers given can be. |

| Betty, I seem to recal the "why?" questions started at about 3.
I think the book is a wonderful idea.Set it in motion and I'm betting the right collaborator will come along.

| There are actually several books like this for both adults and kids, I even own a few. One kid's book is "Do Penguins Have Knees?" If you search Amazon (try "book of questions"), you'll find more.
They're popular books and I'm sure there's room for another. |

| When my son was little, I bought a set of books, A-Z by Golden Book that had about 26 books all about how things work from batteries to bicycles. I used those books. They were wonderful. I passed them on to my younger brother, so two children did them in. Today they would have to add in a lot of things.
It was nice having those books; I got one a month until I had the whole set. I miss them even with the Internet. |

| Here's a great question; 'How do Bumble Bees fly?"
Because by all accounts, they shouldn't be able to. Their bodies are too big, and their wings too small, yet they still fly. Strange. |

| Ever read or hear "The Trial of thr Bumblebee"? It was a favoriet of mine and my brothers We would play it on our old 78rpm record player back in the late 40's and early 50's
The bee was on trial for flying even though it was against all laws of science.
When the judge asked him how it was that he had broken these laws, and flew anyway,he sang "I just went ahead and did it/1"
Betty's stories are a lot like that story. they give positive encouragement, not just to kids, but to grown-ups as well. |
