Dear Joe,

All the middle aged women I know are reading short, very short, romance stories with vampires and their ilk. It does not appeal to me, but I imagine they are trying to be able to converse with their teen age daughters. I do not know one man who reads this stuff.

Perhaps stories about confronting the elements may appeal to them. Stories like, To Build A Fire by Jack London. I believe that the male audience has been neglected. Men read, I am sure. I just cannot prove it.

Love,

Betty

http://www.merriam-webster.com/dictionary/oxymoron

Quote :
Definition of OXYMORON: a combination of contradictory or incongruous words (as cruel kindness); broadly : something (as a concept) that is made up of contradictory or incongruous elements

Joe, when Shelagh posted that a friend suggested she write porn, you immediately replied that you were thinking of writing about the Vatican.

Hence my question re Vatican porn.

Then you said that you were thinking of writing a biography, and that you had a good imagination.

Since a biography relates facts, writing one with your imagination is an oxymoron.

It's an oxymoron often used by tabloid reporters, but never by serious biographers. Hardly anyone believes the tabloids anymore, so write away - reading it will be fun---just as both of my posts were meant in fun.

Cheers, Annie Very Happy

I think you were understood, Ann, and Joe was messing with you. I think it was a bit of touché -- now Joe will start messing with me!

As for the Vatican, one of the Cardinals (from Scotland!) has just been outed for making inappropriate sexual advances to young priests:

You couldn't make this stuff up! Fact is always stranger than fiction.

Sorry, Joe - you accidentally hit a nerve. I have a thing about writers who make up stories about people that are not true. It goes back to the days I was writing the AM book and learned what the tabloids did to him as he got older. I still see it happening with celebrities today, and it's especially strong right now as I am getting that book republished.

I knew you were messing with me and should have let it go.

My bad

Annie
