| Either Smashwords or Kindle. PubIt seemed a little more complicated, but all were relatively easy. Just go to the program and follow the directions. You will need your new cover, but you can change it later, so if it isn't ready, go with something simple for now.
If you're planning to use Kindle Select, just go to their pages and follow directions.

| I found Kindle pretty easy though my ebook Amour is double spaced with hanging indents in the the final - and I can't seem to fix it. |

| Which version of Word did you use, DK? did you clear all old paragraph spacing formats?
I didn't think any of the ebook programs allowed double spacing, but there might have been a before or after command left in the document before you uploaded it.
Or not. |

| I would definitely try reloading.
Check you file first to see if the gaps are there, if yo haven't already. Then go back and reload the file. It can't hurt. |

| Alice, I'm checking back to make sure I understood. I assumed you meant there was missing text in the ebook. If what you meant was wide spaces between parts of text, you will want to work on the format in the word file. I can give you some guidelines if that is what you meant. |

| I'll check it out. I'm having problems with Smashwords right now, but can't do anything else until I hear from them, so it's unpublished there. Let me go back to the Kindle program and review. |

| OK, as nearly as I can tell, they don't require an ISBN - they assign you what the call an ASIN when they publish.
Are they asking for one? |

| I'm really ticked with Smashwords. Now I want Kindle to get their version published asap so I can see if they have the same problem.
The Smashword PDF looks fine, but their mobi product shifts back and forth from Times New Roman to Courier New, and their epub has the text so condensed the letters run into each oter, and at other time, switches to double spacing and different font size.
I'm sure that much of the problems come from the fact that my word file is old and made up from several different versions of word, but I've done everything I know how to do to get the format fixed.
The Createspace version look great in the previewer. They allowed me to upload a PDF instead of word. Guess I'll check that out next.

| Hey, when you can afford it, go for it.
Consider going to createspace. You can do that one totally free or they have packages you can buy for any stage. They don't fix much for free, but their online reviewer is very easy to use and it helps you to spot what you need to change. I learned a lot from my RV experience, and I knew to contact them when one problem kept recurring. A brief, free chat with a very kind lady solved the problem, and...at the end of setting up your paperback, you can opt for them to create your Kindle book without you having to do or pay for another thing.
For a $25 fee, they will distribute your paperback to other online bookstores, including B&N
Check my joy thread to see the cover I was able to design from their free selections, and that is another place where you have several paid options.
I don't much like monopolies, but at this point, Amazon and Kindle do the best job IMVHO.
Just me. |

| You're welcome.
One more thing. The advice I got from the chat I mentioned was to get my word file exactly the way I wanted it, and then to convert it to PDF before I uploaded it (if only smashwords allowed that!). that way, the program would not make any unwanted changes. |

| Oh, and you want to choose your page size, and set up page numbers before you upload. And it's a good idea to make sure your new chapters have an odd page number, so that your chapters always begin on the right side page of an open book. I learned the hard way with Rdstone's Valley.
It's kind of opposite the things you need to do to format an ebook, but generally easy, and then, they will take care of the formatting changes for your Kindle version.
I'm wishing I had gone that direction.
Right now I am trying to get Calibre to properly convert my PDF to EPUB, and I am in way way over my head. I am going to retreat to my bedroom and escape into GH, especially now that Frisco is back. |
