Hi Everyone

Hello all,

I'm new to this kind of thing and find the myriad of posts/smilies/stickies a bit overwhelming, but hopefully I won't get lost in all the noise. I live in Nottingham, England and am a first time published author. I did it the hard way. I self-published with a company that offer a traditional deal as a prize three times a year to their strongest manuscripts. Luckily I won that prize and since then have been busy busy busy. My novel is fantasy fiction, written primarily for teenagers (though enjoyed by adults too). It's called Nature Mage. I'm currently editing the sequel, which mostly involves me sitting in the pub frowning at a laptop and ripping everything I've done to pieces before trying once again. In fact I'm off there in a few minutes but wanted to join up and say hi first.

Anyhoo, that's probably enough from me. Glad to be a part of the community.

"...welcome to forumland then, and moreover publishedauthors forum now..." started the goblin turning up from elsewhere in a hurry before dashing off again, continuing "...can't stop, but I guess that all this posting is just another type of publishing then, save that this time it's your persona by your posts now, where all you have to do is figure out what would attract those readers towards you and what would repel them...", not that the goblin actually cared much about forum readership now, saying "...nah, I'm anonymous so readership means zilch to me, what counts is turning those readers into repliers here, an active replyship not some passive readership, so how about it then, would you care to carve forumland up with me human, or are you still thinking that writing is just that ebooks stuff for readersheep...", and with that the goblin was rushing off again but not without first handing a cup of finest filtered coffee to Duncan remarking "...ah yes, there are other writer's forums out there, but only published authors has coffee you would kill for..."

"...getting better already..." replied the goblin turning round looking at Duncan now, adding "...no rush then, just that this is you as an act on a thread stage in a forum venue, where no one is asking you to be as me now, nor do as I do either, but you'll agree that if more and more readers are coming onto forumland to find their authors, then those authors should be ready for their readers, where how remains one's homework but writing style and wit are indispensable I guess, oh and not paying any attention to goblins too is very wise indeed..."

I was just planning on being myself and meeting lots of nice folk, and letting the rest tumble out as it will. Hopefully that will do

Well, Duncan, you and the goblin seem to have hit it off. He's a very wise old goblin with a style all his own. You seem to have got the gist of it, so you must be pretty bright too! Bright enough for a star. In fact, you are edging very close to your very first shiny star!

I feel like a squirrel at the pellet dispenser. A very sad demonstration of my desire for head patting!
