| I have a picture in my mind of the first persons who ever tried to peel a kohlrabi. They must have been starving, it must have been cold, and they must have had the tenacity of a cliff climber and the hope of a true believer that that little rock hard ball would be edible. Also, they must have had fuel enough to boil it for an hour or more. Dang! Not to be defeated, the kohlrabi is in my freezer this night. Love, Betty |

| I learned about kohlrabi from my mom. Her mother grew them in her vegetable garden. I love to mix the bulbs with the greens. Like turnips, only without the bitterness. Or chard with a root.
Maybe I should plan some for Thursday's dinner.
Thank you, friend.

| Betty, sometimes the best things are not easy to cope with. I also like Kohlrabi. The effort required to prepare it is worthwhile. Hunger is a good motivator. |

| So, Ann and Abe, How about some kohlrabi recipes. I have frozen it after I boiled it til it was almost done. My plan is to nuke it with butter and salt and pepper. Ideas? Love, Betty |

| Mom taught me to cook it the same way she cooked turnips and greens. Peel it and slice it or dice it so that it wll cook fairly quickly. Saute some bacon, then add the diced/sliced bulbs with a bit of water, salt, and pepper, and simmer until the bulbs are tender, then add the greens long enough to wilt and soften them.
Your covers, BTW, just keep getting better and better.

| I may regret this post.
I cooked the kohlrabi, added butter and salt and pepper. We ate it last night. It was about midnight, I think, that my David woke me up. He is an affectionate person. All of a sudden, he put the covers over my head and held them tight. A small bubble of gassssss emitted from under those blankets. He became hysterical with laughter. I fought for clean air. For the love of God! How can one small little hard as a rock green ball produce so much methane?????? Arghhhh.

| I have to wonder what bacon, greens, and cornbread might have done. Ann |

| Dear Al, Ahhh! The Cold Robbies! It is as good an excuse as anything that comes to my mind. God bless W. C.
Ann, I imagine that bacon and cornbread would have kept him asleep until morning. Snort!
