Shelagh, is it normal on forums to leave posts with such language that may be offensive to many? I know a few scattered epithets are generally acceptable but such blatant disregard for others and obvious ill intent seems unnecessary to keep in a forum. This is not a novel where the reader is prepared because of context for such language. This is an open forum where generally, the posts reflect a more intellectual and thoughtful approach to the topics.

This forum has been a more personal venue for some, including me, to think they are among friends, a cup of coffee around the table, sharing victories and defeats in the writing business.

Just my two cents....

I agree with you, DK. We have a member in our midst who is an attention seeker. The more time I give to him, the more offensive he will become.

Sad situation!

Dear E. Don,
You have a beautiful way with you. You can state your opinion on any number of ideas and never resort to being vulgar. Some people cannot express themselves without profanity. Some people, even though their years imply adulthood, have never gotten the idea that grown up people converse with respect one to another.

Thanks Betty. Actually I read what that person had written and it just struck me as being completely uncalled for. When one has an opinion that he or she wishes to express and can find no other way to do it than resorting to crude and rude words, then I think they are better keeping that opinion to themselves. Posts like that show an amazing lack of maturity, and for one who calls himself a writer, they show an amazing lack of writing ability.

I could not agree more-there must be something lacking in his life to cause him to spread such garbage around.

Thank you all! I thought I might get sliced and diced for my prudishness. I was taught that the use of profanity is a short cut when other words would say the thought better. Profanity in the context of a story or novel as part of a character's persona is a different matter.

I looked at those reviews Betty the first one by a fellow named Dave knowell
was a five Star review according to his text. He obviously had forgotten (or was confused as to how) to award the stars. The result was a lower star rating overall.
There are people who get their kicks out of giving negative feed back. These types of folk write opposing comments simply to give you a bad day.
As has been said before not everyone will like what we write and it is pointless to expect everyone to do so!
I love your stories Betty and hope you continue to make them available for us to enjoy.
