When I was a child, the good people of the churches brought us clothes, They were not selective about the clothes. It did not matter if they fit anyone. Most of the time they were too big for a little kid.

I loved the buttons. Men's clothing and coats had very large button, an inch and half across. Women's clothing had nice sparkling buttons, pearl buttons, buttons that almost glowed in the dark from their mother of pearl selves.

To me they were so beautiful.

I have never gotten over the coveting of beautiful buttons. I was telling my David this night that I thought of going to the Good Will and snagging the buttons that are sewn on as extra and repair buttons for shirts and suits. I said, no one would ever miss those buttons and no one would ever use them.

I did get a lecture! He said that the buttons would know and that was the end of it!

I would never have had the nerve to do it anyway. Snort/

Love,

Betty

You could have sold the pilfered buttons on the street. You would have been a button pusher.

Betty, I agree with Ann. You have been pushing the human buttons.

Your idea of taking buttons from old clothing has merit. I remember the fancy buttons of the past. Pearl buttons and buttons with special designs have potential.

Years ago a friend made a shadowbox of clothes fasteners. Buttons, hooks, zippers, snaps, pajama strings, belt buckles, even safety pins It was quite a sight.

Dear Al,

Once, I found one of those shadowboxes at the goodwill. It had real marble agies, some antique marble marbles, odds and sods of lovely buttons, seed that only God knew what would grow, bits and pieces of old lace and dress trim.

I felt that that box had been bestowed upon me by some long dead person who wanted someone to see the parts of their life that no one had ever seen.

Fanciful, I know.

I wonder, though, if we are drawn out by some spirit that puts these relics in our path just for the tiny resurrection it might bring to their departed spirit.

Love,

Betty
