After Wed. I won't be around, here's the reasons...


Wed. and Thurs. I'm going for special Medical tests.

I'm changing my TV and DSL to another company because the
the one I have is getting too expensive, don't they know their
is a depression on ! So I don't know how long it'll take to find a
good one with a price that suits me.

I too am struggling financially my job hunt is unsuccessful.
As soon as they find out how old I am and my state of health I get given the cold shoulder.

Like many here you are a bright ray of sunshine in my life.

Joe, I use Centurylink in Florida. The DSL, home phone and DISH are $76 a mo. Home phone is minimal; so is DISH. I couldn't find anything that included all three for less. It's a struggle to keep it down because they keep trying to push additional services. Each piece breaks out at about $25 though the price is a bundled one.

Thanks everyone...I really didn't want to do the tests
my Dr. has been after me for two years to do this !
I'll find a company that's not ripping me off..

Two years! That's a long time to put off tests. Hope you are okay. Tell us how you are beifore you cut of your internet. Do you have an internet cafe nearby, or a library? In any case, thank you for telling us so we don't freak out. We will miss you though.

Alice..

I opened my big mouth to my Dr. when he asked
several years ago about family history, I said heart disease
and my late sister had Colon Cancer, so he wanted me to go
for a colonoscopy test ! She beat the cancer but died of
heart failure in her sleep, three months before she had major
value replacement, she was against taking blood thinners and
had diabetes... So I told my Dr. I would take the test if he
would stop haunting me !

I don't envy you the colonoscopy. I was awake for mine and it was no fun!

Dear Joe,

Like you, I dread all this invasion of my body these test require. But, I do them all the same. Until I went on Social Security and Medicare, I could not afford any of those test. They are all expensive and the exprense prevents many people from finding out what they need to know to keep on living.



Go and do them all.



As for the rest, the internet connections and all, I imagine you are in a better space than I am, connection wise. Out here in this lovely country that I live in, sattelite is the only way to get television and internet.



I will have to check out DK's suggestions for all in one. Right now it cost 40 a month for house phone, 60 a month for cell phone and 95 a month for sattelite tv.



There must be a better way.



I will let you know.





Get the tests, Most of the time it is not as dire as you can imagine. The thing is that you will know what is what.



Keep the chins up and keep writing on the message board. You are so gentle and wonderful.

I'm nervous about the test ! I will try to be back as fast as

Betty, not to hijack the thread but Joe is off for testing so here goes. You made a good point about people without income or insurance being unable to have the basic tests that provide info to live a quality life.

The lack of universal health coverage in this wealthy country is due to the fact that the decision-makers have all their needs met. They have all the tests, all the best health care and no fears for their own futures. It's easy to judge those less well protected as "deserving" their lot in life. They don't sit at our table, hear our pain, feel our frustration.

The additional problem is that this "wealthy" country is only wealthy for one percent of the population. For the rest, incomes have dwindled, salaries and benefits are less and we know the unemployment figures.

A friend of mine, one of the hate spewing political types, now has a family member suffering cancer. The job will be ended and insurance with it. COBRA is too expensive, only intended as a stop gap between jobs anyway. No insurance company will provide insurance for a previous condition. His comment to me, "my politics have changed now that the circumstances have become personal."

And therein lies the problem with our government at this moment. Personal to those in power is the "only $400,000 left for my family" as quoted by one representative. We are only numbers for political campaigns that are big lies funded by those with a special interest. We are an unemployed, uninsured, in poverty number. Chopping off benefits, chopping off a few of us, is not personal to our Representatives. Children in poverty are not their children.

I couldn't have expressed it better. I am embarrassed when the subject of healthcare comes up with my European friends. We claim to be the greatest and the best, but our actions show the opposite. The rich are concerned only with their own welfare. The government is supposed to represent all the people, but it is clear with one political party that they cater to the rich. I'm no longer a proud American. I am an American that will continue to fight for justice for all - not just the privileged. Unless we continue to fight, the rich will continue to become richer on the backs of the less fortunate.
Joe often talked about a flat tax. His idea makes good sense. The rich can afford accountants and lawyers to find tax loopholes. They claim that what they are doing is legal. That being the case, the loopholes should be closed or made available for everyone. A flat tax on all income, by all organizations, may be one good solution. All income is taxable. Sending money to tax havens should be considered fraud. If one wants to use America to earn money, then they owe it to the country to pay for that privilege.
That's how I feel and no one will stop me from expressing my feelings.

We'll one more day for "THE TEST !" I have been looking on
line for the best deals for DSL and TV, Plus I'm moving to a
new apt. in two weeks, too many things on my plate ! I
the DSL I have now will be shut down at midnight..
