I saw The Help. Actually reminded me of Fried Green Tomatoes in terms of the acting, dialogue, directing and environment.
It's worth seeing. I'm not sure it's as great as others think. I have seen movies made about South Africa that were much more poignant.
I guess the greatness of The Help is the attempts to over dramatize and the use of humor. It makes a time in this nation that was unspeakable have elements of humor.
The scars left on this nation, blacks and whites alike, are still deep and painful. Current black unemployment at 14% is part of the legacy.
Perhaps some of the terrible things this nation has done from genocide to the American Indian, to slavery, to segregation, to the treatment of poor immigrant workers has wounded us all. In spite of the extreme wealth, the nation has its grief.
Even what we have done to the environment and to farming animals for cheap meat - there's a streak in the fabric of this nation that is not pleasant.
