Wolves get a bad rap. They don't deserve it. As animals go, they are pretty highly evolved.

Animals are just that - animals. Highly evolved animals. Regardless of how domesticated they appear, they are still subject to their base instincts. Even human beings have base instincts; but our intelligence generally overrules. An animal's intelligence is for the purpose of survival. If threatened, they will revert to instinct.

Well, we are animals, too, and are known to revert to instinct at times, intelligent or not. Wolves will kill to eat if they are hungry, but so do we. They do not attack unless their own survival is threatened. They are not humans, of course, but they are very familial and protective of each other; they mate for life - that's something we haven't managed yet , and they have sophisticated ways of communicating with each other - body language, signs, and specific growls and sounds. Those characteristics put them above some other four-legged types.
I've even known a few two-legged creatures who act at a lower level than that.

However, an animal will suddenly behave from instinct with no warning. Generally, hu.mans let their base instincts beer. known before they behave in an inhumane manner. Even my little bird, said to have the intelligence of a two year old child, who snuggles in my hand and sits on my shoulder, has bitten my ear with no provocation - and it hurt very much. Given the opportunity, she flew away. However, she was scared in the top of the 40 foot pine tree in a storm and flew back.
I trust no animal. Period. I agree that there are human beings who also cannot be trusted.'
There are many animals who mate for life. There are many who do not. It appears that homo sapiens does not mate for life in spite of religious teachings.
