For the many women and men who have been and are currently in the role of "mother," today is a day of celebration.
Expectations run high for the receipt of recognition in the form of hugs, breakfast in bed, homemade cards, flowers and for some, the best money can buy.
It's a "Hallmark Day" for some; a commercial day to encourage expenditures of large sums of money to show mothers how much they are loved.
The most interesting part of all this: a mother's love in unconditional. Mothers throughout the centuries have sacrificed their own youthful hopes and dreams for the sake of sending forth into the world children who would lead their own quality lives. If they receive any thanks for their efforts, it is a bonus.
Every day is a "Mother's Day" for someone. It's a day of joy and sorrow (the pair are practically one when it comes to children) as a child is born, educated, graduated, employed, married and on their own way to parenthood if they choose.
Through it all, the maternal bond of unconditional love holds fast, both ways. We hunger for that bond if it has not been experienced.
So, today's "it." Today's the day to celebrate love and nurturing. In spite of it all, today a mother appreciates the words, "I love you" a little bit more than every other day. Today is the one day that mothers may get special recognition if not on any other.
Congratulations to those who have experienced the joy of parenting, of that special role called, "Mother." You change the world.
