Dear Alice,
I believe it is an Opossum. It has the face of one I know. 'Possums have a lot of teeth.

I rescued one once. I went out and it was a little pink rolled up ball. Everything on it was pink, from it's lips to it's toenails. I tried to feed it with a small doll bottle but it was just too frighted and remained in the tucked in ball.

I took it to a kind vet's office who had hired high school girls and boys to do some rehabilitaion of wild and abandoned critters.

You know, there is such kindness in this world, not just for animals, but for people. No one ever hears of these dear souls that flap out kindness willy-nilly across our world day by day.

Un-sung, they are.

Alice, If I live to be a million years old, I will never, ever forget you....your warm and decent heart.

Love,
Betty

Dear Shelagh,
I thought so, too. But I do not know one hedgehog that graces these united states. I am and often wrong. I thought it might be a porky-pine. Very Happy

How did you come about this critter on your wall, our Alice? Did you paint it your very own self ? My Old Agnes would love to have tea with her/him/it any time. She will bring the tea!

Love,
Betty

Looks like a hedgehog for sure - my mum used to have porcelain ones, and a friend had a live one (they come under the 'exotic pets' and are not great household companions at all). Perhaps someone had one and it escaped?
Opossum's seem to me to have a longer body to them, and a longer head overall...they remind me more of the wharf critters we see here from time to time...a rat that is.
So nice to see these conversations once again - I have missed all of you!

Pam,

Welcome back! You and Shelagh got it right--it is an English hedgehog.

Betty, I made a whole set of them--eight pieces and we used to eat off of them, then I had so many dishes, I started giving them away. I only have two of these left now.

I have an entire round hedgehog set.-- Hubbies favorite. No one gets them yet.

Alice, thank you! I have been away for ages, sent a note to Shelagh today and then this evening thought I would pop in and see what's going on.

Glad to see you again - love the plate!
