As authors, I wonder who and how much one would pay to have their name appear in any of our books? Since royalty advances and actual royalties are slim, perhaps an author could get advance compensation with this method.

Anyone here willing to try it?

This is funny. Yesterday as I continued my agent search I looked at a client list on a website and an author's name jumped out at me. It is the name I randomly chose for my protagonist's purloined identity, the name the reader knows him by for most of the book. No problem to change it, just do a global replace, but it's difficult. Several of us have come to know him by that name. I think I'll send the author an email and tell him about it.

Should've googled that name before I got used to it.

And James Patterson doesn't write his books anymore, I've read. He has a staff of writers who do the work for him. Talk about the "business" of writing and publishing.
