Don Meredith has died.

http://www.dallasnews.com/sharedcontent/dws/ent/stories/120610dnspomeredithobit.8ac4895.html

I shook hands with him once. We came here to SA, my now-ex and friends, for the 1968 Hemisfair. He did an open air Q&A session with several of the Hemisfair guests. He was as charming in person as his reputation suggested.

I noticed in the linked eulogy that his dropped ball at the finals against the Greenbay Packers is considered one of his "mistakes." I don't think that's fair. It was just too bleeping cold for the Dallas boys that day in Wisconsin. Carol, if you're reading, I think we discussed that game at least once.

My favorite thing about him was the way he would leave the huddle singing "I didn't know God made Honky-tonk angels" at the top of his lungs, and immediately throw a perfect long-range forward pass right into his receiver's hands.

We won't see his likes again soon.

And, BTW, you're missing the best part of the article if you don't read the comments.

Ann again
