| 11/18/2010 How is local business doing in your town due to this severe recession ? Here in Santa Fe so many restaurants have closed , just read about two more and this town is known for it's restaurants. As far as retail is concerned ver dire, I just found out last week about a large retail four story building called " Simply Santa Fe," is closing after being on the Plaza for decades. Another is a children's toy store very well know Cherie Cherie, Arius Art tile which has been around for 34 years is gone, 25 galleries have closed this past year, tourists are almost like the ghost of Christmas past. I don't ever remember seeing it like this in my lifetime, I believe were in a 1929 depression....... Cheers...Joe.. |

| Washington has not been as hard hit as some areas, however, building houses has ceased, logging stopped, some dentists are demanding cash payments on day of service. Unemployment around 10%.

Alice..
We shall see ! Here un-employment is at 8.5%, I read last night that the state is running out of money and they are cutting it down to 46 weeks, they said their paying out per day $850,000- per day for the un- employed, they also said they would have to raise taxes heavily on the companies to try to raise money.
Cheers...Joe |

| Joe,
We cannot fight costly wars, cut taxes and carry on as usual.
We must bite the bullet and decide if we wish to invest in our country and people or borrow to destroy other countries.
To have a war, taxes should have gone up not down.
Everyone would not have been so war happy if they paid for it. Borrowing from others was too easy. Is anyone happy with the results of the wars? We have lost precious people and are billions in debt. |

| Ann,
Thank you for agreeing with me. I will go further-- giving tax cuts to the wealthy will help nobody.
Clinton raised taxes and we had a robust economy--a budget surplus. It didnt' take long to get rid of that with the wars and tax cuts for the wealthy.
The wealthy do not help the poor, they help themselves and feel the poor should just work more.
If they worked 24 hours a day some people would still be poor. Why? Too many children, low paying jobs, poor health, etc.
I am getting riled up now. We should return to the Clinton taxes.
I do not want the taxes to be lowered for the rich. they will simply become richer and the poor will get poorer and we will be deeper in debt.
How do you get out of debt? By paying less on your debt? By borrowing more? I don't think so. |

Alice..
You are a wise lady, my hat off to you ! I elect you the head of the treasury , they have to get rid of that jackass who's the head of it ! All they think of in Washington is spend, spend and more spending ! It's about time the people take the bull by the horns and get rid of these politicians but the public keeps coming back for more punishment by re- electing them. Look at this other jackass Charlie Rangel from NY , I know this turkey from living in NY all my life, he's a liar and on top of it arrogant ! He should have lost his job plus his salary, pension, benefits, at 80 he has to go !
Cheers..Joe |

| No thank you, Joe. It is far easier for me to say what should be done, than to do it. A common problem. |

I'm sure where you live it's not a tourist town, but people now are being more careful on how they spend , you never know when the govt. will collapse we're living in a false economy, they keep spending billions of dollars we don't have..

I vote for all listed on the team, now if Shelagh and the rest will say yes, it'll be the shot heard around the world and Washington, they'll run scared, Yes !!!! Cheers..Joe |
