Following on the discussion of the moon in the 2012 thread I have a proposal
First - thank you alice for the kind words in the 2012 thread.
I think we can put together a plot for a really good sci-fi book with the catastrophe (initiated by the moon) being predicted by a young woman geophysicist fresh out of college who confronts an older PhD who follows the Uniformitarianism views of Scottish geologist, James Hutton and his dogged stand against catastrophe: Hutton writing, "As it was in the beginning, is now, and ever shall be, world without end."
Now it is true that the moon wanders from a true path by 5 degrees - back and forth. And it is that our young geophysicist (we’ll call her alice) sees a disturbing motion developing in the moon’s orbital path and she warns her colleagues that if a large exchange of momentum should occur the moon could try to straighten its path (or vary its orbit in a hunting manner looking for stability) and cause great distress in the earth.
She sees no way to stop it nor place of refuge, she doesn’t want to cause a panic etc. The last scene sees concrete pavements erupting and waves beginning to destroy beaches and buildings begin to tumble
The title of the book will be,
Alice//James
