| Dear Alice, I have been getting the hydroponic pots ready for the new crop of strawberries. On that ground cover it is 134 degrees in the heat of this Florida summer. It is not a new thing.
I consider that if I was a very fat person I would be rendering and not just sweating. There would be a little puddle of oil at the bottom of each stack that I worked on. I would melt down like a bucket of lard.
It is a good thing that I am lean.
When I think of the nights of winter that I awake hourly to check the temperature and waddle out to turn water on berries that would freeze without it when the temperature gets to 32, I remember what I said in those cold moments of night.
"I will never complain about heat in summer. I will remember these nights."
So, I wish for clouds and a little rain to cool the air.
I am glad for air conditioning and that I can afford to pay for it. I use it with a frugal eye.
The blackbirds are beginning to arrive and that is a good sign that fall is coming.
Love, Betty

| I'll bet on Betty's blackbirds any day. I can almost feel things cooling down, now.

| I love blackbirds if they cool things down.
Betty, I don't see how you can work in the heat. |

| Fussy, fussy. Summers are gorgeous in Wisconsin. However, the high humidity has been a medical problem. My husband went out to play 9 holes of golf and came home with a soaked shirt. People were leaving the golf course and going home because the humidity was dangerously high. Northern Wisconsin was absolutely gorgeous, but we had a few days over 90 which is very, very, unusual. Love, Carol |
