If they spent some time promoting to the public, the results would benefit the author. They can start by reducing the retail price.
By now we all realize that their public is the author.

Actually, a book's competition is all others in that genre. People looking for cookbooks aren't going to buy a homeschooling one instead.

What books are included in "the average book?" Does it include ebooks, textbooks, arcane reference books? 80% of all books sell under 100 copies, with an average of 15? What kind of books are those, and are they commercially published?

Of course PA prices are high; since the market is largely the author's friends and family, they/you will pay whatever is asked. And I'm sure most are able to sell more than 15 copies ...so?

That said, all this should have been evident to anyone who gave even a cursory look at their website, or researched the matter.
