| Dear Joe, When I went to High School, The Catcher In The Rye was a banned book. You can bet that everyone wanted to read it as soon as they could find an illicit copy. .
That was back when. Thank God those days of the church censoship are a little less powerful. There were many books banned back then. If someone mentioned sex, the book was banned. Remember Lolita, The Valley of the Dolls, The Children's Hour,
Not a one of those books seems bannable this day. The Tropic of Cancer was banned. Who were those people able to ban books?
Why did they have the power?
It is too bad that LC is not here to see this discussion of books that were assigned by lit teachers. Those old books are why I am here trying to put my words down in a way that someone else understands and feels what I feel. Masters. They were.
Love, Betty |

| I never understood why people liked this book so much. I always wonder if they read it when out of their teens they would still think it's anything special. Most over-rated American literary phenomenon since Allan Ginsberg in my opinion. Too bad about Salinger. One thing cool about him, his avoidance of publicity was world-class promotion. |
