| Congratulations on your 50th. That kind of anniversary is becoming a rarity. |

| I cannot even put into words what the day was like. We coincidentally discovered the party was to start at the exact same time as the ceremony 50 years ago . A light snow was falling outside the big windows at the Baraboo County Club which look out on the Baraboo Bluffs, rolling hills from the last ice age.
There were people of all ages, from all parts of our life. We sat at a head table and behind us was the TV screen with the slide show my husband had made. My kids were all there.
But it wasn't just about a marriage lasting 50 years, but what we'd done with those 50 years, people talking about how we'd lived our lives, a friend saying how I'd helped when her husband died, my husband's musical group singing us love songs in perfect harmony, even my kids little humorous comments about which one was our favorite. My son read Nelson Mandela's speech about how we are more often afraid of success than failure, about the important it is to live large and that was what our family's belief's were. living large, being all we could be. He said I had given it to him one time and he had saved it.
My husband told about my being sweetheart of his fraternity, and also about my being the "Toilet Bowl Queen" at the college's annual "Toilet bowl football game in the doldrums of winter where a giant snowy toilet bowl commemorated the event.
And on and on. It was probably the best day of my life.
I came home, crashed on the couch and just woke up a half hour ago.
Love, Carol |

| That was all probably better for you, even, than the meds. Keep the memories in reverie and get a day of rest with them.
We care about you, and need you feeling well enough to join us and post often.

| Alice,
Yesterday morning, my physician's assistant, Sarah, called to wish us a happy anniversary.
Her only medical advice was that wine would make me real loopy, which is written in bold letters on the usual meds I take. I sure didn't want to be loopy in front of my best friends!
Sarah is an angelic member of my medical team.

| Carol, I won't know the feeling until 2011. Perhaps there will be books in the future of "Who's Who" that stayed married for 50 years. |
