Carol,

How far are you from Hayward?

There were deer in the parking lot of a popular restaurant here the other day. I don't think we have bears, though.

Ann,
did they say what brand of beer the bear was seeking?

The bears are back around here. A month ago one walked around downtown Kent and strolled out Main Street past Kent State. Guess he'd had enough of people because from there he went back into the wilds.
We had to be watchful when hiking in the woods in Upstate New York. Bears take it personally if you disturb them when they're busy.

10/18/2009 Very Happy

Here in Santa Fe, NM about two weeks ago someone
heard loud noises at 6 AM, they thought it was a
burglar, we'll come to find out it was a large bear, it
walked away across the highway and back to the woods
a few days later another bear was spotted believe it or
not stuck between two houses, it took animal control
six darts to knock him out, then they took him to Kit
Carson National Park. The first bear I found out was a
block from where I live ! Were I live is a compound it
was built on ten acres of land, looks like central park,
peace and quiet. About two winters ago I look outside
and what do I see but a Roadrunner sitting on the fence
to the garden ( the garden is 8 feet wide by 12 feet long
A few minutes later another one showed up, they
stayed for while then took off.. That's why I keep Miss
Dusty on a leash and harness, so she doesn't wander
and especially go after the birds, I've even seen some
Rabbits too...I've even seen Coyotes not far from here, I
don't like them, dangerous to people's pets !

Cheers..Joe.. Very Happy

Ann,

Our cabin is about 50 miles from Hayward. That was a funny article, and certainly could happen up there. We have had bears on our driveway and road, and once I found a hummingbird feeder under the porch with a big hole in it. It was high on a post and only a bear could have reached it. My husband once saw a mother and three cubs.

They are beautiful animals and not harmful unless one disturbs them, especially a cub when a mother is around. That bear could have probably hibernated in the beer cooler if they'd let him!
