| WikiAnswers - Heaven in IrishTranslations question: Heaven in Irish? Neamh, which is pronounced nav, as in navigate. wiki.answers.com/Q/Heaven_in_Irish Obviously Ireland must have many Heavens! Neamh is the name of a main character, a beautiful Irish girl, in Ghost Orchid. Her mother named her Neamh (changed by Neamh to Neev) to represent the love affair from which she was born - a bit of Heaven. I put the Wiki in this post to support my Irish Neamh for Heaven since it is a central theme to Ghost Orchid and was carefully researched when the novel was written. However, the same "Heaven" could have many Irish names and translations. |

| I'm sure you are right, DK. I did a further search on Shelagh and found out that Shelagh is a place in Co. Louth. There's even a book with Shelagh in the title, Naomh Malachi and the Shelagh Story By Art Agnew:
http://books.google.com/books?id=JLVnPgAACAAJ&printsec=frontcover&dq=subject:"Shelagh (Louth, Ireland)"
... and there's a primary school:

| Babal translator doesn't translate Irish....... I imagine both Shelagh and Neamh translate "Heaven" with some nuance of difference...... |

I imagine both Shelagh and Neamh translate "Heaven" with some nuance of difference...... DK, The translation for "Heaven" is Neamh (pronounced Neeve). The meanings given to names are not direct translations. |

| Shelagh, thanks for the confirmation. The main character of Ghost Orchid (featured on the avatar cover) is a beautiful Irish girl Neamh who was named that by her mother to represent Heaven. You'll note the Celtic Cross is also on the cover another aspect of the deep Irish roots central to the story. Neev is her nickname (without the ending e). A friend named her for me after learning I saw in her aspects of the daughter I never had. I am Irish and English, strongly Irish, on my mother's side. My dad was Norwegian and Swedish. Lots of "hot" tempered blood line there...cooled by the English... |
