| Over 1.5 million public domain books that have been digitized by Google will be available for purchase from any Espresso Book Machine at bookstores and libraries around the world. Brandon Badger, Product Manager on Google Books, and Dane Neller, CEO of On Demand Books, talk about the Espresso Book Machine:

| Amazing! A penny a page to print--wonder what they will sell for? |

| Since they are public domain digitized by Google, you wont be able to get a PA book through this machine, or any other publisher's/self publisher's/vanity presses's/commercial publisher's books through this machine. |

Wrong! 'Meanwhile, Northshire discovered that the machine’s ability to print original books in very small numbers was attracting a lively customer base of local authors. “Self-publishing was a plus we didn’t expect,’’ said Annette Rodefeld, Northshire’s print-on-demand coordinator…. “The Kindle is hot,’’ agreed O’Leary, “but e-books will be a small segment of the publishing industry for the foreseeable future. Print-on-demand, on the other hand, is growing.’’' http://www.selfpublishingreview.com/2009/07/02/the-espresso-book-machine-comes-to-vermont/ |

| No, I was referring specifically to this program, not to the machine in general. RTFA. |

| Google have signed an agreement with Books On Demand to sell books digitized by Google but do not have exclusive rights to the use of the machine. Stores and libraries can take out agreements with any publisher or self-publisher; they are already doing that.
Whether PA would sign an agreement with bookstores or not depends on the amount of profit such an agreement would generate for the company. As is the case for all publishers.
"RTFA" -- which article is that? The one I posted? |

| Dear Shelagh, It is a matter of time and money before every Circle K has the technology. Then, who knows. I wish I had the money to buy you one of these machines this minute. The possibilites are really amazing. Can you see the Barnes and Noble as a drive up? Love, Betty |

| I remember my former husband saying as we went to pick up a prescription in a blizzard many years ago, "I'm going to open a pharmacy with a drive through like McDonald's." I said, "No, that won't work. The pharmacist has to talk to you; besides, they want you to shop in their store while you wait for the prescription." Years earlier, a friend who was an inventor drove into our drive with what he called a "Money Machine" in the bed of his truck. "You just put in your Bankamericard (the only credit card besides Amex and Diners' Club at the time) and out comes $20 bills." He said one day there would be one on every corner. I laughed. "A truck will back up and haul away the money machine. This will never work. People want to talk to a teller when they get their money." Obviously, I'll stay out of the predictions about the book machine. |
