I ran across www.writelife.com . It appears an alternative to PA. Anyone interested should check it out thoroughly. The web site seems to lay out its business plan quite clearly. In my mind, it's sort of like createspace, except Write Life does the work. There's no apparent cost to authors (shipping looks high), and a complimentary copy is provided.

Unusual. As you say, it might be a good alternative to PA for someone new. The book store puzzles me.

It seems pretty new (although these places change names sometimes and look new). I wouldn't count on this type publisher for writing credits; but for a book for one's self and family and friends, it may be a good choice.

I have a friend who wrote a wonderful book about his family that included well-known patriots during the revolutionary war. I think he still has about a thousand copies in his warehouse. It's very adademically sound and well written. I just barely got through it. I imagine his relatives, however, enjoyed his research. It's a beautiful hard cover book.

He may have been money ahead to not self publish but rather use a publisher of this type, a way to test the market.

That's why I suggest caution. They have books listed for sale at their site. I didn't look at Amazon.com to see how their books sell. They might just be new - which can also be a risk in this market.
