| Malcolm, I'm a little late, but your post was awesome. I read every word. Memories of those long ago moments come to mind at the most opportune times. As writers we all put pieces of ourselves in what we write.
You really did a nice job of expressing this.

| When someone asks me if my writing is autobiographical, I say, "the emotion is real, the characters are composites from those I've met and those I'd like to know and some I would choose to avoid, the places are real, and the story is the glue that puts them all together with a beginning and an ending. Real life is not so well organized, and the events are not in my control. |

| Thanks, Vickie. That's a good answer, DK. I think I'll steal it and have it read if anyone asks.

| Dk, what you said came through clear in your book. If you recall, I commented that I thought it was a true story. |

| I realized that with my book was based on family, and I went with the happenings as they occurred, which was willy nilly and haphazard.

| Carol,
That's the way life is, willy-nilly and haphazard. So, what do we do when we're writing historical fiction and want to keep to the facts?
One of my favorite writers of historical fiction is Sharon Kay Penman. She manages to stay factual and make a fascinating story out of the history.
Where there is a will, there is a way.

A wonderful way of putting it, DK. |
