How do women do this?

Jackie came into the office with a small packet and said, "Did you send for this?"
"What is it?"
"Men's deodorant. A free sample that came in the mail."
"Do I look like a man who would send for a free sample of deodorant?"
"It's got your name on it."
"They probably sent one to every man in the country. Gimme it."
I opened it up and took a sniff. "Whee-ough."
Jackie examined the box. "It says seven out of ten men prefer it to Old Spice."
"Well I'm part of the ninety-nine percent that hate 'em both."
"It's free so you should use it."
"What, you want me to smell like I just stepped out of a Parisian cathouse?"
"I don't know how a man smells at a time like that. Apparently you do."
"I do not. It's just an expression."
"But you were in Paris, weren't you?"
"I was in Paris on August 25, 1944, the day it was liberated, but I didn't see any women."
"Oh, really? I've seen pictures of that day. Women were everywhere. They were climbing all over GIs, kissing and hugging them, things like that."
"That was when guys came along later. We were being shot at. Once in a while, anyway."
"So you didn't see any women?"
"I saw one woman. She was wearing a white medical coat. Somebody got shot so she came running out of a pharmacy to help."
"So that was it. Out of the entire population of Paris, you saw one woman."
"I wasn't counting, you know."
"No, I'll bet you weren't. Too busy, huh?"
"Dammit, I was trying not to get shot."
She began walking away. "If you say so. Don't forget to use the free sample you sent for."

Fantastic! I could use a lesson.

Next time you send for a free sample Dick, put Jackie's name instead or yours.

Dammit, I did NOT send for a free sample.

Then how did you get it?

I'm suspicious of anything with the word "free" in it.

I've seen the commercials for that deodorant on TV Dick -- the one that is preferred over Old Spice. Personally, I don't get it. Oh yeah, probably because I didn't order it....ha ha ha.

Here's a idea...maybe Jackie saw the commercian and ordered it for Dick as a not so subtle hint. That could happen, right??

Maybe so. It's my belief that a man should smell of nothing but honest sweat.

I think some people take honest sweat way too far. I know people who smell like dead onions and will clear a small room in moments. They are left there surrounded by dead flies. Why they think their underarm pores should be so free is beyond me. They have the whole rest of their skin to sweat out of. Block those underarm ones with something.

Deodorant is the reason that people can live together without killing each other. God bless Dial soap! Well, God bless all soap but lye soap. And while we are at it, water. What is it good for?????? Armpit washings, cooking, drinking, and mixing with Scotch.

I've smelled those people who call it "honest sweat" and agree with Betty! The onions could be dead or alive--and they'll clear me from the room in seconds!

I agree with what Betty and Helen said. Having been in close quarters many times, in great heat and among folk who refuse to wash is enough to drive a girl to alcohol.

I have missed you.
I think of you up there in that cool air once in a while. I went to Canada one time, the people spoke French, but English as well. The water in the lakes off the glaciers was such a pretty shade of green. You do live in God's country. I think so.

I have missed you too. I love reading what you write. There is quite a bit of French in certain pockets up here, and it's one of the things that I am currently working on and has surprised me with how much I have remembered from when I was in school.

Now listen, ladies, I didn't say the guy shouldn't wash after working up that honest sweat. But on the other hand, it does take time that could be spent doing more interesting things. Benjamin Franklin rarely if ever washed and just look at him! Thomas Edison didn't do much of it, either. I tried it myself but can't get away with it.
