We don't have to put ourselves in boxes or follow set standards, but can venture out to other areas of publication with success.

It is also interesting that the author had many books published by traditional means, but thought her words on the subject of this self-published book were important enough to set out on her own when rejected by others.

I love stories like this. Having read a few biographies of authors, there are many more with stories like this, beginnings with self-publishing, many rejections, etc.

She is being promoted on her name, on her former credentials, however.

Yes, Carol, Aphrodite has a platform that she can use to achieve much more than a first-time author could hope for. However, it is a good example of how a door slamming in your face does not mean that your words will never be read. In the past, it would have been impossible; now it is possible for just about anyone.
