You always have fine information, Malcolm. Think I should write "Death of a Good Housekeeper" and send it in?

I don't know, Dick. The magazine wants stories about women coping in the modern world. Considering the way women's roles have changed, the very concept of good housekeeping is dying, at least by my mother's standards.

I'm putting one together on a working single mom to send in. They don't generally have time for it.

And I'm thinking of one about a retired woman who long ago realized it just wasn't that important.

The magazine is titled "Good Housekeeping" so the story that wins will be about good housekeeping -- even if it is by today's standards. The magazine want to use the winning entry to sell more copies of their magazine...

It is a good idea to look at the judge, the author of My Sister's Keeper, so perhaps we need to include more than dusting and cleaning in our stories.

Probably getting a copy of the magazine would help.

I think Shelagh is right. If I were to write a story about my view of good housekeeping, it may tend to destroy the magazine.
Remember the old TV series where the wife did the house cleaning wearing high heels? Try selling that.

Maybe my entry needed a tongue-in-cheek smiley.

Dick, any story with a "Bad Housekeeping" ambiance to it probably isn't going to be read fondly by the judge.

Boy, that leaves me out. Unless I take Ann's advice and write Lizzie, a Good Houskeeper with a Big Axe.

Of course, Lizzie wasn't found guilty, so the thing ends well. Just goes to show how people who appear whacked out may really be okay.

Whacked out? Good one, Malcolm, whether intended or not about Lizzie.
It's strange how certain things grip the minds of people. The two most famous crimes in history out of the millions committed took place at close to the same time in the 19th century, Lizzie Borden and Jack the Ripper.

Sounds like the subject for a 300,000-word book with many footnotes, Dick. Go for it.
