You knew that this was coming. Simon and Schuster made an agreement with social publishing website Scribd.com and has placed 5,000 titles on the site for sale.

I use Scribd and have placed my books on that site for sale as ebooks. The intersting thing about this site is the ability to place free content there for other to read or download. Just as with amazon's Kindle, the big houses have the ability to influence what is being seen with advertising dollars. On the other hand it gives the whole ebook business more legitimacy. I figure that the long tail of publishing is the main focus and very little cost is involved to go digital with book titles.

The more I do this, the more format seems not to matter whether it is paper, audio or ebook. The only issue that I have is the technology part of it may make it more difficult for some to keep up with everything that needs to happen after their book is written.

Thanks for some interesting information, DT. Now if you could just tell me how to put something on Kindle I'd be happy. I just don't get the instructions.

Dick, the only thing I managed to get up on Kindle was my already published Arirang: The Bamboo Connection. Kindle did all the work for that one becaue it was already loaded in the "Look Inside" which provided the needed stuff for the Kindle.

Dear Dk,
That is really good news about the Look Inside. I have that. I have a few more years before I can do the Kindle feature. That is pretty easy for people who can opt for Kindle to do. Just send Amazon a book, let them do the rest for you. I hope it is that easy when I need to do it.

Love,
Betty

Thanks DK. Sometimes this stuff can be maddening. The computer whiz kids assume everyone knows as much as they do.

I guess it's "search inside" that I used for Arirang: The Bamboo Connection." Anyway, to make it easy, I recommend following the procedures for "search inside" as step one. Then loading the Kindle as step two. That wasn't too bad.

I tried to load some short stories to no avail.

I tried to use Createspace and it's still stuck telling me my margins are not 1" all around, for months. Since then, I have a real publisher! However, I can't figure out how to get what's started out of Createspace.

So, I guess all works out in the end.

Hey, our recommended Information site for authors about publishing took off like a rocket!
