| Subject: My First Novel Wed May 27, 2009 6:39 pm | |
| I just released my first novel! 'Fragments of the Key: Eala's Misfit' is a 362 page young adult read. While I am extremely nervous (I'm like a mother with her child going off into the world), I am so ecstatic that I could hug and kiss everyone in the world!! It is the first of seven and it was very long in the making (I'm thinking the others will go a lot smoother and faster). I don't know if I hold the record for the longest time spent on one novel but it's been over 8 years:| . My defense (or so I tell myself so I don't feel so bad) is that I was also sketching out the other six in the series not to mention I finished up 3 other 'short' books. Still, my 'baby' is finally complete! Here's the back cover write up: Abandoned at the Duldridge Orphanage at the tender age of seven, Caede Gadron has no memory of her parents or her past. Every night for as long as she can remember, she has been besieged by wild nightmares that summon strange plagues. Feared and dubbed a misfit, she is alone until someone from her past decides it's time that she came home. But can you still call a place home when you were exiled from it? Hoping to finally belong somewhere, Caede's homecoming less than welcome. A deadly siren, a Demon Mage, and even talking wolves all want something that she supposedly has. Yet, they all seem mild in comparison to Bowen Wilts and his experiments! Also, here is a link to where you can view the first 10 pages - the preview is not all story (it is the actual first 10 pages so it'll show the title page, copyright, etc. but there is a few pages of story): http://stores.lulu.com/store.php?fAcctID=1232675 The link is to my storefront at Lulu so you can also view my other two books (my excuses for not being finished in a reasonable amount of time). One is a children's picture book and the other is a general fiction. I do have one other that is located at Xlibris.com : https://www2.xlibris.com/bookstore/bookdisplay.aspx?bookid=36891 |

| Thank you all so much!! Thanks thehairymob! My friend did the illustration (that was his third drafting--if you check the book's page on my website you can see his first two versions and a t-shirt design I asked him to make up). |

| Thanks Pam! I'm excited but also nervous. I'm really just an introvert with extrovert tendencies at heart so the whole 'marketing' is scary to me. Since I'm a self publisher w/little funds, I am the 'marketing person' unfortunately. Though, luckily enough I'm also realistic so I know to get readers I have to market. In the end, I may not be spectacular at selling but I do give it my best and then some (despite the shakes ). |

| Christy,
Maybe you could do a reading at story hour at the library, or even go to some classes at the school to read to the kids. I've done both and it doesn't sell a lot of books, but it is lots of fun.
I like your cover.

| Thanks Carol! For the children's books I've done a couple of readings my son's elementary school. I was even asked to give a couple of presentations on 'authors' day. You're right, they are an absolute blast! I find I'm not as nervous in front of the kids and I love all their questions. At my reading, I passed out flyers to offer the parents a chance to buy the books and even donated a portion to the school's library from the sales. There wasn't much sales (it's hard to compete $ with the traditional publishers since they can offer books for $3 or $5) and I even put in a couple of bucks just because...eh, 'just because'. One of my goals is to go to the local library and see about a reading there. I think it's the 'approaching' that wracks my nerves. I'm fine once started but the initial, 'Hi, I'm an author....' well, I get tongue tied/twisted and my cheeks turn dark and splotchy . The words do come out and if I focus hard enough they actually make sense. I'm much more in my element with the creating process of it all though. |
