There is still snow on the ground but the temperature climbed to 34 degrees today. Light jacket weather except for kids. They are walking around in shirtsleeves and shorts.
Jackie said, "They're crazy."
"No they're not. That's how I dressed when it was in the thirties when I was a kid."
"Why doesn't that surprise me?"
She doesn't compliment me that way too often.

Dick,

Oh to be young again. Young blood runs warmer than old blood.

Dick,

Today was the first day we've been out of the teens in nearly a month and Saturday it's supposed to be in the fifties!

I like cool weather. Many people feel the same way. I can take it up to the low 70s. Anything above 75 is oppressive. People get a lot more work done in cool weather. Around here they close the schools if it gets lower than 15 below zero. That's a good cutoff point.

Here I am in Florida, where the temperature on most any winter day is 75. It has not been so for the last week, and the night temperatures have been in the 20's.

Tomorrow it will be close to 80.

Our farm is mostly survived.

Today, our well bit the dust. What a disaster for hydroponics. The well people cannot come out until sunday. I hope you can imagine how we will be scurring around to keep every thing wet. I am thankful we made it through the freeze.

Cogburn cannot fly and he is still going into the cage covered by blankets and an old plastic parka to sleep. One good thing is that the family with the pitt bulls have decided to take the dogs back to the big land where they came from. I appreciated that.

It has been a week to remember. well maybe to forget.

Love,
Betty

Betty,

I have missed you but knew you were probably busy keeping plants warm. I hope things will get warmer and life will be easier for you and that Cogburn gets better fast.

Love, Carol

I hate hot weather, I prefer to live in a colder climate. One can put clothes on to keep warm, but there's only so much one can take off to keep cool. Heat makes me sluggish. With the cold, I feel more energetic. Perhaps it's the stimulus to get out of the cold that puts a spring in my step. I enjoy sitting next to the warmth of a fire, drinking a cup of coffee. If I'm out in the cold, having an occasional nip helps to warm and stimulate.
Statistically speaking, people living in colder climates live longer. People in warm climates (and I've lived in them) take longer to get things done. They need that afternoon Siesta, and come alive late in the evening when temperatures are cooler.
Those who grow up in hot climates acclimate to conditions early in life. The same is true for cold climates.
So, as they say, "whatever turns your crank."

You have the right idea, Abe. The cold is conducive to brisk walks and the use of physical energy to stay warm. I have always been fond of the cold. Until lately. Now I yearn for a warmer clime. Just not too warm! Of course, if it gets too warm, there is always air conditioning!

Betty, I can just see you scurrying around trying to preserve the plants and trying to keep Cogburn safe and warm. I am glad the pit bulls have moved!!
