You are seeing things clearly A Ahad, in that our society is much built up on a fabric of woven lies by the power elite. You are also right in seeing that we authors of fiction must sometimes must tell the truth, (or a version of it) through a fictional story. I suppose that we may be modern day Crusaders on a quest to tell lies in order to educate the masses about the truth. That is the difference between a clergyman and a fiction author.
I find that those with something to gain from lying will usually do so. Those with nothing to loose will usually tell the truth if they have the motivation to do so. It depends on how wrapped up the teller is with cares of temporal gains and worldly concerns. Releasing ourselves from worldy cares for money and power (sources of vanity) gives one a great freedom. Thus humility gives the freedom to tell the truth about things. Maybe Janis Joplin was saying something when she sang "Freedom is just another word for nothing left to loose"?

Actually the world we live in is woven of mutually agreed-upon hallucinations that each and every one of us generate.

Some are able to have great effect than others.

Note again "Robinson's Precept"

Quote :
The truth behind any given proposition is proportional to the amount of energy invested in that proposition.

Dave and I watched an unfotunate man who was fired from his job becuase he said the banks were gving out flawed loans.

Nice reward for telling the truth.

People do not want to hear the truth.

I don't always agree with you, Lin, but this is "right on," with what I'm learning about how we construct reality. I found this article by Gene House, a sociology professor at Tennessee State University while I was surfing on the topic:

http://www.grhouse.org/reality.htm

Here is how he begins:
Quote :

Socially Constructed Reality

I'll tell you what we talk to ourselves about. We talk about our world. In fact we maintain our world with our internal talk. Whenever we finish talking to ourselves the world is always as it should be. We renew it, we kindle it with life, we uphold it with our internal talk. The world is such-and-such or so-and-so only because we tell ourselves that that is the way it is. If we stop telling ourselves that the world is so-and-so, the world will stop being so-and-so. don Juan (Castaneda 1971: 218-19)

This quote is central to the idea of the social construction of reality: "The world is such-and-such or so-and-so only because we tell ourselves that that is the way it is". Reality construction has been discussed by many different people but has frequently left the first year Sociology student more confused than enlightened, I hope to change that confusion to understanding. As Pirandello's character in The Pleasure of Honesty says upon meeting a family:

Inevitably we construct ourselves. Let me explain. I enter this house and immediately I become what I have to become, what I can become: I construct myself. That is, I present myself to you in a form suitable to the relationship I wish to achieve with you. And, of course, you do the same with me.

Ann,

I find that with family in-laws. I have several children-in-laws who don't always know about spending time with our family. We are an accepting group of people, but I have seen these beloved people either trying to impress, which is not necessary. or are confused.

Carol,

It was the root, or part of it, of the troubles between my daughters and me. We had this one reality that was me as their mom, and this other with them as independent adults, and another after my mother moved into my house and brought the reality of the family of my childhood, and they all got mixed up together with this power play with each of us jockeying for the right to choose which reality would win out. As a result, nobody won. We couldn't seem to find a way to sit down and negotiate a reality that would work for all of us.
