I'm happy to announce that my new plotting how-to, Plot Your Way to Publication, is available on Amazon now. The official release date is tomorrow.

In the book, I teach plotting and show where the major plots points in a fiction novel should be placed for the best dramatic effect. Structure was quite a journey for me to learn. Chelle Cordero interviewed me about writing, and I told her about my quest to learn and why:

http://weblog.xanga.com/cce613/679287439/woman-in-charge-brenda-hill.html

I wrote the book originally as a guide for my writing students, designed character charts as well as scene placement charts, then Vanilla Heart wanted to publish it as a workbook, 8.5" x 11" so the buyer can fill in the charts. They've also included extra blank charts that can be cut out and copied.

Even though writing and publishing can be frustrating, it can also exciting and rewarding. I'd love for you to stop by and take a look:

Sounds good Brenda.
Things change so rapidly that a guide such as you describe can be a great help. I've read that even the top mystery writers use a formula for plotting that is computer generated. Knowing what to do when can save much time and frustration.

Thanks, y'all. It's so exciting. Can't wait until I get my author copies. Nothing quite like the thrill of actually holding a book you've created - except childbirth, of course. But with a book, you can admire it without having to change diapers.

Carol, have you heard anything?

Brenda,

I'm running my query letter past my daughter who is a technical writer at the university, but is very creative as well and usually has some good ideas, which I think have helped me get the positive responses (but not contracts) I have from publishers recently.

I really like your publisher.

It's amazing how supportive they've been and what they've accomplished with my manuscripts in a short time. But I think the best thing is how responsive they are to the author answering questions, doing promos, etc. I'll keep my fingers crossed for you.

Beyond the Quiet is scheduled to be released next month, and they've sent it out for reviews, sent press releases, etc. It's wonderful to have a publisher like that.

Why not post your query on the query board, Carol. Perhaps some of us can help.

Congratulations Brenda. As someone who has read your Plotting Book and used the techniques, I can highly recommend it to new and established writers alike.

Hi Brenda,

As always, I am late to the party!

I am hearing so many good things about your Plotting book and what I have seen of it looks terrific - it's going on to my recommended list for the writing workshop I am teaching.

I am so glad you are enjoying the VHP experience. I remember chatting with you when you first came on board.

May you enjoy MANY many successes!

Best,
Chelle

Thanks, Chelle and Sue.

Chelle, congratulations on your B&N writing workshops accomplishment. That's wonderful!

And Sue, yes, it is exciting, and I think the plotting workbook is available now on Amazon, not sure about B&N, but it will be.
