An Amazing Night! Empty
PostSubject: An Amazing Night!   An Amazing Night! EmptySat Dec 06, 2008 6:14 pm

My hubby and I were driving north on US 395 in California on the evening of Dec 1.

A couple of days before we'd noticed two very bright 'stars' low on the horizon. We stargaze enough to know they were really planets.

But what was amazing on Dec 1 was the crescent moon that joined up with these planets (Venus and Jupiter) creating the most beautiful celestial scene!

It was simply breathtaking! Sadly, such an amazing occurrence won't happen again until 2052 Sad

This person took a very good photo of the event.

But of course nothing beats seeing the real thing.

I was watching it too. I love a clear night sky. and we just got rain, for the first time in days, so no viewing tonight! But with the rain, we won't have any 20 degree night!

Hi JoElle,

This is the photo we took in South Wales. The camera was hand-held, so the picture isn't as clear as the one in your link :

Would have been nice to see, but around here we seldom see the sun, moon or stars from the first of November until the end of April. Doubt if I'll make the one in 2052 because I'd be 127.

I saw it too, and my son said several families on his block were out with binoculars and telescopes.
