| Brew, you have my sympathy. I can't imagine a worse fate than sitting on the red clay in Georgia while eating broccoli. I've had a lifelong hatred of broccoli but didn't learn to hate that red clay and dirt until I was 18. I'm pleased to hear it has a useful purpose although I believe I'll pass on eating it. I wouldn't mind seeing it again, though. |

| I believe in eating what you want in moderation. The health field comes out with a new bad boy every few months or so...or, a good boy. Remember oat bran? When news about oat bran's properties came out, it appeared in EVERYTHING for awhile. I wouldn't have been surprised if they put it in my deoderant. Gotta live with some fun. |

| Only you, Madhatter, could think of that! It might be a mite sticky though. I wish I had your imagination. |

| Shh, don't tell, but I have been known to add Bran Buds to meat loaf -- the kids still don't know. My Mum always threw in a handful of cornflakes (said it was to help bind the loaf together, which is a crock, it's simply filler), however, getting kids to eat their bran is tough, so the meatloaf was fair game. Who's the meatball now?? |

| Dick you have no idea -- we are just ruthless when it comes to making sure everyone gets what they need! Zada I tried oats too, but sometimes they can see them on the top. Course they like the oats in cookies, so I never knew what the big deal really was... Shelagh you made me laugh again. I needed that, so thanks! |

| Alice, I didn't know broccoli was sneaky but I'll bet Dick would have some thoughts about that. Cherry pie? That's like messing with Apple pie and that might be considered un-American.
Alice, with your adventurous spirit perhaps you will try broccoli pie? |

| Broccoli pie. Abe, you sure know how to get the day off to a bad start. I was, however, served beet meringue pie in the Army. Looked great, tasted like . . . |

| Dick, Yuck! Was the beet pie here or abroad? No wonder the war was horrific. |

| My sakes alive! Which was worse the fighting or the eating? You had to be resilient to live through either one. |

| I'll have to agree with Dick this time... Beets is (are?) among the few things that I can't seem to acquire a taste for, and to make them into a meringue wouldn't help.
They may make a good dye though... |

| I love beets, but if someone created a meringue pie out of them, I'd likely have had the by now famous "Dick's opinion of broccoli". Isn't amazing what the cooks'll come up with when they've got a little too much time on their hands!! |

| Pickled beets are okay, I guess, since I like vinegar... |

| Beets me!
My mother canned red beets and always placed a few boiled eggs in the jar. Eating the red beeted egg was as close as I got to red beets. Recently I changed my attitude toward them when my wife made a red beet salad. I didn't want to say, "I don't like red beets" and therefore tasted the salad. I loved it. It was loaded with onions and whatever else she put in it. Entirely different from what my childhood experience. |

| I love beets any way I can get them, but I've never had them in pie, and only beets that have been 'picked'! (Just yanking your chain, Pam!) |

| LOL Zada - I had to check back and see if for myself! Darned fingers do not listen to what is in my head.
Abe, I have had them in a salad too, and they are great. If your wife wants to share the recipe, we're glad to have it out this way. It's always great to have options when it comes to vegetables, and salad. I try to do whatever I can to avoid relying on lettuce. |

| Pam, my wife says: "After the beets are cooked, they should be thinly sliced. Then oil & vinegar added, as with a regular salad, add lots of sliced onions, some salt and a tiny bit of sugar. Mix and enjoy!" |
