I just did a bit of googling on Dick's name and found this:

Thank you, but I was just nominated. Marcia Muller won, but at least I was in good company among the nominees.
Murder was committed in Bypass to Murder by using a shorted line bypass condenser in a table model radio, then replacing the plastic tuning and volume knobs with ones of metal. I knew it would work, having been in that business for a while. It's one of the few stories that I can remember the plot thanks to the title.
