My first orders for Betty Fasig Farm Empty
PostSubject: My first orders for Betty Fasig Farm   My first orders for Betty Fasig Farm EmptySat Oct 11, 2014 3:58 pm

I wish you could all have seen my smile.
Five people.  A total of twenty-three dollars and seventy six cents.
All orders have to be in by Tuesday.  I am over the moon with this.
I remember when I started the Westcoast Aquatics business and my first order was 8 dollars.  I was over the moon for that as well.
Baby squash is a hit.
The wonderful thing about getting an order for something that you have planted and worried about like a child is that your hope and belief is justified.  You just know that the person who gets it is as proud to have it as you are to have grown it.

Today, we planted the strawberries.  500 Festival berries..
I wish that manna rained down from the sky onto people who love the plants that they plant.
I know that you can plant and care and preserve and hope to feed the world, but one person has a struggle all the way.
Love, Betty

Sorry, Betty. This was somehow posted to the wrong thread, so I'm moving it here, to where it belongs:

Quote :
A favorite squash recipe from my mom's kitchen:

Start with a thin pancake batter. Slice the squash lengthwise, about 1/8 of an inch thick, dip in batter and fry in half oil/half butter (to keep butter from scorching).

Just a little something to add to your webpage.

Isn't it lovely, getting it all rolling? So impressed with the work you have done to get here, dear friend.

Sometimes, when I'm working from my Kindle or phone, things get scr***ed.

My bad.

Oh, Annie and Shelagh and Joe and Abe.
Last year, when I grew a few squash, I had a hard time giving them away.  This day, I wonder if I have enough for the orders.  The baby squash are a hit, the big squash are a hit as well.  This night, I have four vegetable markets that want to buy from me.  I love that.  I am learning.  God bless the internet for information about how to keep greens crisp until they are in the hands of the buyer.
I found that if you take the stems out of a collard leaf, you have to have a license to sell it.  I will check that out.  Tonight, I am tired! My teeth are lighting up the back yard!
Love, Betty

Local collards always sell well here. They grow through the winter.

Lynn and I were discussing ways to cook veggies a few weeks agom just after you gave us the link to the website.

Collards was one that we talked about. She was saying that she mostly still cooks them the way I showed her while she was still at home: Saute diced bacon and onion until the bacon is crisp, then add chopped collards with just the water that stuck to the leaves while washing them, Turn down the heat, cover them, and let them simmer until they are tender.

The other way we do them, though is the way Lynn taught me: Saute thin slices of garlic inolive oil until the garlic is a deep gold color, then add the washed greens and finish the sam way as with bacon and onlin.

I hope you will keep sharing your recipes with us. They always sound so god.

Maybe we could all put a PA cookbook together.

Congratulations!  I am so glad you have found your target market. I could use a few of your vegetables myself. :-)

Congratulations, Betty. Your caring attitude grows much more than plants. You simply make me smile all the way to my toes. If manna rains from heaven, it certainly should touch you and all you help grow.
