Not President, I would love to be in charge of education though.

I learned algebra  in college when a Phd taught it to us.  He loved it. He stood up and did problems on the blackboard over and over until it sank in.

He didn't care that we were beginners, he was there to teach and that he did.  Whatever his pay, it was way too little.

Kids should do no more than 10 math problems for homework. They shoud be done right. Doing 35 problems wrong is a waste of time and just cements it in their mnds  wrong.  Besides it is much easier and faster for the teacher to correct 10 problems  than more.

None of this is diffcult.  Teachers should be proud of their profession.  They should wear a gold badge idenitfying themselves as teachers.

Instead of spending so much money on fancy buildings  the teachers should have much higher pay.
After all, good teachers can fire ones imaginatiion with a piece of chalk and a blackboard.

Continuing education should consist of travel, so teachers can meet fellow teachers and see how they do things.

In the 1989 I taught school in the Bahamas - with slates and chalk.  It took more time, the repetitions were fewer, but the students progressed.  We had great plays and stories and a lot of acting out that helped set the learning.  Without "stuff" one has to be creative and creativity is catching.
