Then, you do not know?
I believe in God. I have studied the Bible. I do not recall a New Testament source for your quote. Just asking for some documentation so I can further my studies.

You say you believe in God, but you only quote men. As to the Bible, in your own words you treat it as a child like story. I am sorry, I will not debate the Bible with you.
You wrote on this thread:
"So, too, we ought to be able to believe that a man (or woman) who is struggling with a changing world, and not able to quite believe in the reality of it, can be like a person stuck in the "belly of a whale," and that God can help him by having him "spit onto the shores" of that new world, by telling us a child-like story of a man who was swallowed by a big fish, and spit out onto the shore of a land he thought he wanted no part of, so that he would have to face his denials and prejudices.
But that's just my interpretation."

Chapter 2 Verse 1 [a]From inside the fish Jonah prayed to the Lord his God.....Verse 10 And the Lord commanded the fish, and it vomited Jonah onto dry land
Now, can you show me the book, chapter, and verse where Jesus said, "Man can not guide his own footsteps"?

I guess you just don't understand. I do not know you. I want nothing to do with you. Nor do I wish to have dialogue with you. I have stopped reading your post because they have no interest for me. You are welcome, as all members of the forum are to make comment on my post, but please, do not direct your comment toward me...

"Don’t write for a demographic. Don’t write for publishers, reviewers or agents. Write for yourself and maybe for that handful of people who really “get” you. Don’t worry about the appeal of your book being too narrow. My novel, Mercury Falls, certainly isn’t for everybody. To be honest, I’m surprised that its appeal has turned out to be as broad as it is, considering that it’s filled with obscure references to everything from Occam’s Razor to Creedence Clearwater Revival to Wargames. What I’ve learned is that, ironically, by intentionally refusing to pander to my audience, I actually made Mercury Falls more interesting for readers outside of what I originally thought was my target demographic. Readers respond to authenticity, originality and excitement, even if it’s not packaged in a way they expect."

"What I think is that a good life is one hero journey after another. Over and over again, you are called to the realm of adventure, you are called to new horizons. Each time, there is the same problem: do I dare? And then if you do dare, the dangers are there, and the help also, and the fulfillment or the fiasco. There’s always the possibility of a fiasco. But there’s also the possibility of bliss."

The idea in the hero adventure is to walk bodily through the door into the world where the dualistic rules don't apply.

Many of you will be pleased to know that day-after-tomorrow, when I-google ceases to exist, so will my little JCF app. Unless the JFC website figures out some other way to make it viable, it will disappear into defunct cyberspace.
But I have a strong feeling that the masters at JFC.org will soon find an alternative, so beware - you never know when it might pop up again.

Annie, I enjoy your posting of JC quotations. I hope the site finds a way.
I was thinking today about a song that I remember. I think it was titled "Memories"...
??Memories light the pages of my life.....??? For the life of me I cannot remember who sang it or who wrote it. I have the idea to write it on a card that will go with a present that will go to my great grand-daughter for her baby shower, (second child) and I am giving a beautiful miniature tea set and some miniature crystal glasses that she played with out here as a small child. I wanted the song so I could put it in the card that will go with. If anyone knows the artist or the words, I would love that. I hope that I have not remembered it with joy and it turn out to be a dismal, close to dying kind of song. Love, Betty

THE WAY WE WERE Lyrics - Barbra Streisand
Review The Song (1)
Memories Light the corners of my mind Misty watercolor memories Of the way we were Scattered pictures Of the smiles we left behind Smiles we gave to one another For the way we were
Can it be that it was all so simple then Or has time rewritten every line If we had the chance to do it all again Tell me - Would we? Could we?
Memories May be beautiful and yet What's too painful to remember We simply choose to forget
So it's the laughter We will remember Whenever we remember The way we were
So it's the laughter We will remember Whenever we remember The way we were

Betty, I've been searching, and the closest song I could find with the the line you remember is this BonJovi song:
I also looked up this one. The lyrics don't come as close, but the source has to do with a love we have in common, Old Possum's Book of Practical Cats, by TS Eliot, although this song, as I remember, was added later for the musical.
And you and I are both old enough for this particulary memory:
(DK beat me to the last one)

I remember Susan once had a cat named Grizzabella - a beautiful blue Persian. She was perfectly named. I always expected her to "Meow" out that song.

Dear Diane and Annie, I am blown away with the memories of these songs.
The Way We Were is the song I was trying to remember.
I will copy the words for the card for my baby grand who is 30 now, and her soon to be my great baby grand. What a beautiful memory this song creates for me! I hope it does for her. She will cry for sure. That is the object in our family. To do something, say something, or give a gift that reduces the recipient to tears of heartfelt emotion. I think this song will do that. I am happy! Love, Betty

I rememember the first time I saw it, sitting in a theater with my now ex and recognizing the similarities.
We spent our vacation time that next summer in the Virgin Islands. The romantic quality of that place kept us together another year, but the lines were written on the wall.
I cry whenever I hear it too.

Reading the words in the light of day, I do not think it would be fit for a baby shower card. It was a nice memory, though. Love, Betty

How about this?
Isn't she lovely? Isn't she wonderful? Isn't she precious? Less than one minute old I never thought through love We'd be making one as lovely as she But isn't she lovely made from love?
Isn't she pretty? Truly the Angel's best Boy, I'm so happy, we have been Heaven blessed I can't believe what God has done Through us He's given life to one But isn't she lovely made from love?
Isn't she lovely? Life and love are the same Life is Aisha, the meaning of her name Londie, it could have not been done Without you who conceived the one That's so very lovely, made from love
