PA books Empty
PostSubject: PA books   PA books EmptyWed Mar 03, 2010 1:36 pm

It seems all the books I've seen from PA have some kind of problem, whether it's editing, either that or the writer sucked at writing, or the covers, stock images overused, or just plain lousy printing with words repeated, running halfway down the page and stopping midway or ending in commas instead of proper punctuation. Why does this board promote that company so much? Where are the real publishing stories on here?

Hi... Very Happy

Sorry to say I have four books published
with them , never had a problem, but for my
5th book I'm going on my own. I've noticed
that too many authors with them " DON'T "
go over their books good enough and catch
any problems....Yes if they did a book cover
wrong they will correct it ....

PA books Empty
PostSubject: A few quotes for those uninformed   PA books EmptyWed Mar 03, 2010 2:06 pm

Jenny Rappaport at Folio Literary Management says "Say that you've just written this great fantasy novel, and now you want to get it published. But you're at a loss to how to do this--you don't want to go with a vanity press, you don't want to self-publish it, you don't want to go anywhere near PublishAmerica (avoid them like the plague), but most of the really big-name publishing houses only take agented submissions. "

Jennifer Jackson (Agent) says "I'm sorry.... Publish America is *not* a credential. *sigh*"

Tor's Teresa Nielsen Hayden says "PublishAmerica is a vanity publisher. They'll publish anything that has enough words in it to pass muster as a book."

Brian Keene horror writer says "Are we clear? Do you understand the difference between Raw Dog and iUniverse or Wildside and Lulu.com? I hope so, because I grow weary of explaining it every few months. In a nutshell: Eraserhead good. Publish America bad."

Wylie-Merrick Lit. Agency says "In the past, some authors who have found a publisher on their own have asked us to work the contract for them. This concept would work fine, except in most cases the publisher found was usually PublishAmerica or some other similar entity. If some of you aren’t familiar with PublishAmerica, let me just say this: If you are turned down by them, you must have done something to make them angry, because, otherwise, you would be published. The advance for this venture would get these writers a check of $1.00, and our take for working their contract would be a whopping 15 cents. Oh, did I forget the royalties? Darn. There’s probably a couple of bucks there, too, if the writer has a huge family and a large circle of indulgent friends."

Shelagh, GermanGe has no point. At least not a valid one. He or she is another of the no talent hacks that are afraid to post their name or anything they've written. We can only assume that's because they either haven't written anything, or whatever is it they've written is so awful they're ashamed to post about it. Either way, they're cowardly little pissants that don't deserve any of our time.

This is another of the fools such as the one that posted here a week or so ago and then went on to write a huge blog about this forum. That guy even thought I was going to email him. As if. He's another in a long line of wannabe writers, who, after figuring out they have no talent, decide to talk about those who do. Screw him and the horse he rode in on, and if he wants to talk to me, all he has to do is email with his real name, tell me what he's done, and if I have some time I'll respond.

This GermanGe person is mouthing words in an argument that most of us here got past a year or so ago, and the funny thing is, the words are not even his/her own.

Alice, guys like this one and the last one don't have any new thoughts. If they did, they'd be writers, instead of drooling little trolls.

This one doesn't seem capable of using his own words, so he quotes someone else. Once again, he doesn't seem to understand that to most of us, the PA argument is very much in the past.

The other one, the guy with the blog, just seemed stupid. I don't know, maybe he isn't, but he seemed that way. I read his blog a couple of times, and it just wasn't very well done.

I don't know why he'd think that I was going to email him. This isn't a pissing contest, I don't care what he thinks or what he says. And until I know who he is, I see no reason to say anything at all to him. He knows my email address, but is obviously too afraid to get in touch with me.

So be it. His loss, certainly not mine.

Well, Jenny Rappaport is an idiot bitch.   But her opinion on this one is widely shared.   In my impression from many writing sites (I've been kicked off more than most people ever sign up for) this site doesn't "promote" PA, but has quite a few people here who are satisfied with their PA books.  Discussing it here is, from what I have seen here, created nothing but raging flame wars that shed no light on any issue at all.  Best to consider it a faith-based matter and move along, would be my take.

Lin may have something there. I said that for many of us the PA thing was in the past. I meant it. Please note that it's not us that keeps bringing it up.

These guys had a bit of self importance when everyone was arguing about PA, now that it doesn't make that much difference to us anymore, they have nothing to justify their posting. Not only here, but anywhere. They want to bring back their glory days, we know they never really had any, other than the time when they rode on the coattails of PA.

Move on guys. Find something new. This subject is dead.

zizban - that's a name I haven't heard in a while. Let's see, the last time I saw it was just before the user got banned from AW for trashing PA author's websites. does this mean we can expect more of the same actions?

Actually, what I did was bad but I only did it to one web site -- Jeffrey S, Miller's. I deserved to be banned from AW from it. It was years ago and I don't really remember much of what I posted on AW.

I can still visit as a guest, which I do.

I did apologize to Jeffrey Miller not long after and he accepted my apology. I consider the matter settled.
