| I think she goes into surgery at 7:30am today 30th sep. Not a nice experience for Alice, after reading her I am in a Fit thread, I understand she may be awake during the procedure. |

| I think Alice's surgery is today or tomorrow. Yesterday she said she had 21 hours to go and was in pain and miserable. We need to say those prayers.
Love, Carol

| She's in my prayers, too. What an ordeal she has to go through! I'm sending her all my positive thoughts and energy to hang in there. |

| On Thursday they will program me. That should get rid of the pain and shakes. Drug withdrawal will be next. We are planniing to go to Maui on the 16th of October and the surgeon said I can go if I don't surf and promise to wear a hat.--that will be an easy promise to keep--I am a bald headed vulture.

They set my brain stimulaters. I am a robot. The can make me stop shaking, walk, etc. It is amazing I couldn't get around always before the operation, but could always walk unaided afterwards. When the stimulater failed I had trouble walking, was in pain and they picked up a high impedience in one wire. Sound strsnge? It is.

| Well, they got me to stop shaking. I can walk unaided and feel much better. I want to dive in and do things, but am tired.
Dave reminded me I had two general anesthetics last week, am still on narcotics and have been lying around for a month. It will take a while to get over this. Thank God I am alive and am still motivated.

| Recovery is slow. Having patience is a bummer.
Glad to hear you're up and around. |

| Thank you Abe. We both know that from our heart surgeries. Are you 100% now? I hope so. I was so happy when the heart doctor passed my heart for the surgery.
'I said It had better be okay. I have only had two French fries in the past two years." It is funny what we can do when we have to. |

| Being 100% is difficult to ascertain. I'm told it takes at least a year to fully recover. That means I'm another year older. I have experienced a physical decline each year since my mid 60's; the decline becoming more pronounced each succeeding year. I may be considered 100% at some point and still feel like s**t.
To cope, I've become a fatalist. When my time is up, it's up. I've started to do all those things I did before without thinking about my heart. I've found that the less I did, the less I was able to do. The muscles will strengthen only when used and that includes the heart muscle. I refuse to live in fear. |

| Abe, Good words. I need to say them over and over. We are up north with family and I love them and their dogs and friends and spouses. This family grows in heart and numbers. Love, Carol |

| "The muscles will strengthen only when used and that includes the heart muscle. I refuse to live in fear." Abe, the fear is the most difficult to live with. I try to strengthen my belief in God and angels and prayer each day. It is not easy. Tom and I discuss this and cry buckets of tears sometimes. Fear is the most difficult. We need others to listen and last night my oldest daughter became our listener to our tears. I do not think the fear is bad. My daughter listens patiently to each of us. I do not want to leave this world, but my husband needs some help and we need to work this out. Love, Carol |

| Alice is one of the most courageous women I know. She is filled with courage. Anyone who endures her surgery is deserving of a gold medal.

| Carol, you have often shown your courage. The fear thing is difficult to explain. It is a personal thing. I think we all have our secret fears and seek a way to overcome them. I have come to terms with death and no longer fear dying. I know that when my body no longer functions, the energy will live on. |

| Abe, You have said it perfectly. The spirit and soul are things which are far, far transcended beyond the feeble material flesh which we as humans, are capable of seeing and believing. Nobody really dies. It's just a momentary transition into another realm. Having said that, we need you here! |
