Forums are for fun. Getting published is for serious. I don't see evidence of the publishing world being in deep decline. Writers will always be needed to bring information to the masses. As long as I think I can do that, and be paid for my trouble, I'll work it. |

| Right. You see it happen often on forums such as this one. A thread turns into an intense discussion of forums and threads. |

| I don't mind. It is clearly of interest to the forum members. Administrators are treated like children only instead of being seen and not heard, they should be heard (prepared to join in the discussions) but not seen (stay in the background and have no greater say than anyone else about how the forum is run). Another word for administrator is dogsbody. |

Where did Virtual Tales go? They're there and I'm still one of their authors. I just wanted to link to other things for a while. I'll shamelessly promote my book as soon as it's out. Meanwhile, here is their new press release about me and my book. Cue my fifteen minutes of fame: http://www.virtualtales.com/Press-Releases/ouroboros-acquisition.html |

| Thanks, Zizban Shelagh, I say you are a great forum administrator also. After all, if you allow freedom of speech, you ought to have it also. |

I'll work it. "...one click on the lupus forum soon nips that forums are for fun conjecture in the bud..." replied the goblin, where there were many very real and serious forums out there, adding "...forumland is still in its infancy so of course writers are not seeing it as where those readers are, but given the choice between offering a downloadable pdf file as an ebook, or actually conversing with my readers here, I guess I would rather go with the flow, and explore the growing potential of forumland now, against that declining publishing world that is, oh and please don't shoot the messenger just because I am pointing out what so evidently is, of course I too wish it was otherwise, but here we are and here you are too, why, because you want to converse, and you can't converse with a book, you can only converse about them here on forumland...", in fact, the goblin had never met someone who hadn't seen that the publishing world was in sharp decline, saying "...can I have your autograph please..." decline of the publishing industry |

| I agree. I wrote a small blog post, Is Writing Replacing Reading? that received a great response (much better than any of the blog posts about books) on Literature & Fiction:

| Everyone needs a voice, I guess. That's what "forum" means, and today, there is at least one out there for everyone who has something to say. We cannot trust the mainstream media to be honest with us; even the leaders, who are often misquoted and even maligned can turn to Twitter to set things straight, or at least give their own perspectives.
Hopefully, in time we will remember that there is a difference between writing and literature, and recover out taste for the latter. The chaos of the old order breaking down will be replaced with a new order, and for a little while, we will be back on track.

Perfection is not lovable. All the Buddhas are alike, and they have left the world so as not to live in it. If you're going to live in the world, you live with imperfections. This just popped up on my homepage widget. It seemed to fit in with some of the posts on this thread, especially the ones about forums in general. Ann |
