| I want there to be a hereafter. I want to see Dick, Carol and Lane. My parents and other friends. I hope there is one. |

| Joe, have you read Dan Brown's Angels and Demons? It's fiction with a way out storyline, but the general background details about the Vatican and the customs, including the death of a pope and the cardinal's conclave are pretty accurate.
The story itself is pretty farfetched, but a good read. |

| It's also a movie, but you get more of those factual details from the book. |

No, I didn't. What was the reason for this? And this that a recent thing? When I visited Rome, a bunch of 1600 -era Popes were buried above ground in caskets inside one of those famous buildings, on display ...can't remember the name of the building now, it will come to me... BTW, this is a great example of how "write what you know" is such poor advice. Write what you are interested in and want to learn about. |

| I learned many subjects by teaching them....Writing Ghost Orchid led to instruction at the Blair Audubon Corkscrew Swamp Sanctuary as a boardwalk naturalist and a greater appreciation for the tiniest plant.Ghost Orchid |

Yep. I now wonder how many so-called "experts" of nonfiction and textbooks really became expert only after writing the book. Nothing wrong with that, btw. I think that the best author of a how-to book is someone who is learning the material him or herself (and, of course, is smart enough to self-teach). That way, knowledge isn't assumed. People who already know a subject often skip steps when writing about it or teaching it. |
